Jen & Zach Murphy, (a mom & son duo) are two old school (pun intended!) Sauna Aficionados who grew up down the alley from some amazing neighbors who also happen to be Native American and taught us the love of traditional wood-fired sauna bathing. For eight years of Zach’s youth, sowww’na was a big part of our weekly rituals.

While a big pot of chili was cooking, the women would go first as slow steam is more a traditional female style of bathing and the men (Zach was 2 or 3 when he started for small sessions! ) went after to “let her rip.”

Brought to life as a recovery present to herself (Jen can’t back up trailers to save her life) Sauna Schoolie was born.

“This project has been my baby from start to finish & it’s my sheer delight to share it.”

Because there is a water tank attached to the wood burning stove, the style for this sauna experience is referred to as SLOW STEAM, making it a group experience where no one is blown out per say if someone just keeps dousing and breathing acutely hot steam is not your thing.

Also a Psychotherapist, Certified Personal Trainer & Yoga Teacher (no headstands, I promise!) also running Motiv8 Individual & Group Somatic Psychotherapy, Jen and Zach are excited to offer some creative adult & youth programming with Sauna Schoolie , give tours of the Cool Bus (yes, really it’s name) and bring the SACRED to sweating.

I wouldn’t be where I am today, without a strong spiritual practice and although my story is too long for here, I believe in creating spaces where families and youth can learn boundaries and how to “tune in/to” their bodies vs tune out with the too many screens & memes. And instead I want to be a role model to help them tune into the DREAMS … when we take the time to slow down and connect. Kids hear no a lot and here is a place where they can hear “yes, of course” or “wow, tell me more” when asked to go down to the river, etc”
